Project: Lifestyle photoshoot of new product for website and social media use
THE BRIEF
I was hired by Genecis, the parent company of Mad Coffee, to create a variety of lifestyle images and short reels featuring their new-to-market coffee pods. In addition to green screen sets for later compositing on CGI backgrounds, Mad Coffee wanted to show hand models preparing iced coffee using the pods in a variety of upscale settings, from an office environment to a beautiful kitchen. All images needed a premium, minimalist feel with dramatic lighting.
THE PLAN
We immediately brought on talented prop and beverage stylists to work with us to create the sets and style beautiful versions of prepared coffee with custom-made ice cubes. During pre-production, I tested lighting scenarios for both the green screen images and lifestyle settings, which required different approaches. Based on art direction provided by the client, I photographed the lifestyle images with deep shadows and stark light beams to tell a dramatic story of early morning or late afternoon preparation. Closely following the agency’s shot list, we created a staggering number of images and reels in just two shoot days, highlighting preparation in conjunction with lifestyle and beauty shots of composed glasses of cold brew in frame with the product itself. In post-production, I used subtle color grading to enhance time-of-day cues.
